Nothing works. This print server is not the announced "wonderful thing". I am very sorry about my coments but I think it is my obligation to say it out loud. I have a Canon MF6530 multifunction printer, scanner and copier, the printer was never recognized by the print server and its operation over wireless is not as secure as it says. Please check the printer compatibility list BEFORE you purchase this item. I was long awaiting for such solution and when it came to install it, everything had gone to trash.
This was a great product, it helps me to evoid keeping a computer on for printing from other computers, and it was easy to install.
Answer a few questions. Great. Finished, right. So, yeah, you can download a lot of copies of the manual.
But it's actually the software install on the PC that.Wife: "Just throw the thing away."Which is what I did. Let's find out. Your print server isn't certified to work with HP products. But, OK, finally got the network connection working. OK.
Hi, Roy, here's my problem. I think they sell a lot of printers. Let's say no.Aha. Thanks.Oh, look: there's also a quick-help link. The link to the manual also goes to the manual. Which requires running the setup software, which in Vista crashes after running for about 2 seconds. This product was a bad experience from start to finish (in which 'finish' was my wife saying, "just throw the thing away"). A nice hidden link for a live chat.
Tell it your operating system. No, the wireless is working just fine. The link to the software download goes to the online manual. On the plus side: It was actually pretty easy to unwrap the box from its plastic without incident. These guys are always awesome. It's the software installation on the PC that's the problem. Maybe it's a bad copy of the software. etc.
For the Windows 2000 OS. But things went downhill from there.First things first: Setup required an advanced degree in following a bizarrely complex procedure TO THE LETTER and then intuitively anticipating where the tech person who wrote it would have made a mistake for you to correct (which, of course, requires restarting the process from the beginning). Right, the unit's lights are all lit up just fine. Hmmm. OK, here's my unit serial number etc. It's the software installation on the PC that's not starting up.
But did I mention it's the software installation on the PC that's the problem. You know, they're a pretty big company.
Ahh. A detailed answer.
But did I mention.Oh, what's that. Ha ha, the device laughs, now I dare you to set up your computer correctly.
Yes, I'm getting a wireless signal just fine. "Was this helpful to you".
After all, Linksys has a website, yes.So, go to download the software directly from Linksys. And voila.
It seems that not the case. I purchased the device with the understanding that, based on the information provided, that it would be compatible with the latest Microsoft OS. Thank God there are people out there who find work arounds for this soft of 'short coming'. The device it's self works fine, not problem in the world. What I do have issue with it the semi-false advertising, specifically the compatibility with Windows Vista.
I returned this device and bought a Silex (specifically suited for the Canon) instead which installed easily and works flawlessly. Browsed web to find workaround that allowed sharing just the printer but not other functions but that connection was still not reliable. Does NOT work well with Canon multifunction printer. Infuriating software insists that the Canon drivers need to be installed and will not proceed with the rest of its own installation even though the printer *IS* properly installed.
